Visitors to this year´s Twestival KL will be raising money for Pertubuhan Masyarakat Prihatin (Prihatin), an organisation that seeks to care for single mothers and children living with AIDS/HIV.


Twestival Kuala Lumpur 2011 will be held on 24 March at Finnegan´s Irish Pubs and Restaurant in Midvalley MegaMall and targets to raise RM12,000 in cash for Prihatin this year.

Funds will be raised from ticket sales and auctions of sponsored items that night. Tickets are priced at RM35, which includes a goodie bag worth over RM40, and at RM45, which includes a goodie bag worth over RM60. Goodies include Starbucks vouchers, GSC passes, music CD and more.

Sponsors include Finnegan´s Irish Pubs & Restaurants, Tiger Beer, Yeo´s Malaysia, Text 100 Malaysia, CzipLee, Golden Screen Cinemas, Time Out Magazine, Starbucks Malaysia, DiGi Telecommunications, AForRadio, Expo Digital Sdn Bhd, Original Bootcamp Malaysia, STUFF Magazine, Advanced Aquatics, Norton by Symantec, BMW Malaysia, BlackBerry, Visual Story Enterprise, Damansara Village Steamboat Restaurant, DavidClicks, and Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia.

To help Twestival KL go beyond its target, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has come on board and pledged to match ticket sales up to RM5,000.

The event will also be graced by local personalities such as Will Quah who will play emcee and Elaine Daly who will be conducting the auction segment of the night, while local comedian Kuah Jenhan and Malaysian indie darling Liyana Fizi will be entertaining the crowd with their performances.

Twestival KL will be the third consecutive Twestival, or Twitter Festival, in Kuala Lumpur and will once again bring together fans of the free social networking and micro-blogging service for a good cause.

Organised entirely by volunteers, Twestival will also be hosted simultaneously in Kota Kinabalu and Penang, which will be raising funds for the respective local charity organisations of their choice.

Almost 200 cities across the world organise Twestival events to benefit chosen local charities respectively.

The first Twestival in Malaysia was held on 12 September 2009, where more than 200 participants came together and raised over RM11, 000 for Destiny Starting Point. In 2010, Twestival Global was held in March 2010, raising RM3,000 in Kuala Lumpur, which contributed to the pool of more than USD450,000 which was raised worldwide.
